EVERY DESIGN + BUILD IS A TRUE COLLABORATION BUILT ON A FOUNDATION OF DEEP LISTENING.
Design + Build keeps project costs down. If your designer is also your project manager there is little room for misunderstandings. You are getting what you were promised without a third party. Design + Build can reduce the time it takes to get your project started and completed.
Urban Kitchens can offer you a date to start your project. From the beginning, your materials and fixtures will be selected, ordered and then available to install at the proper time. We don’t like surprises. Our clients are more comfortable when they know how much they are going to spend. Urban Kitchens provides this service by performing more work prior to signing the contract.

01. Initial Phone Call
Initial phone call to discuss the scope of work as identified by the client. We ask questions such as What has led you to call Urban Kitchens? Is something in your kitchen not working (e.g. built-in appliances, the flow, lack of function)? When do you plan to start the project? When do you need to have it completed? In the case of a kitchen, will any existing components like flooring, cabinetry, lighting, appliances stay, or do you want everything removed? Do you want to open any walls? Remove soffits? Change appliance locations?

02. Photo Review
We ask the client to email or text photos of their existing space. After reviewing the photos, we call them back to discuss a ballpark estimate based on similar recent projects we’ve done, and the client’s budget.

03. Site Visit
If our initial estimate and the client’s budget are in line, we schedule a time to visit with them at their home. At this meeting, we take measurements, photos, and ask more detail questions of the client’s needs and wants. This meeting takes about an hour.

04. Scope of Work
One week later, we meet with the client at our studio. This is when we share some design ideas (layout, materials, finishes), a space plan, and elevations. This meeting takes about an hour. We present the client with a detailed Scope of Work and Estimate for them to take home and consider.

05. Design Fee
If the client would like to move forward, we take a design fee and move on to the next step.

06. Design Refining
The next step is refining the design and layout, making sure we address any functionality issues.

07. Site Visit
Once we have a final design, we schedule a site visit with our plumber, electrician, and structural contractor (if needed). At this visit, the tradesmen have a copy of the plans and we do a walk-through to explore any potential issues. Our contractors provide us with a detailed scope and estimate.

08. Finalize Contract
Once we have the contractors’ estimates, we update the contract price and notify the client of the final price and enter into contract.

09. Completion Date Set
Now we are ready to enter into contract! The contract packet includes the Scope of Work, plumbing & electrical quotes, floor plans, elevations, and a construction schedule. At this point we’ve determined a start date and approximate completion date.

10. Pre-Construction Details
Pre-construction: We communicate with the client where best to put the dumpster and porta potty, determine how our tradespeople will access the house, and secure a house key or garage code.

11. Cabinets Ordered
Pre-construction: We order cabinets and know the exact date the cabinets will arrive in our warehouse. There are no delays and no guessing!

12. Finalize Materials
Pre-construction: Then the fun begins! At this point, we’ve asked and answered all questions, conducted the site visit, and have really gotten to know our clients likes and dislikes. Time to select the finishes – countertops, tile, plumbing & electrical fixtures, cabinet hardware, etc. We present material options and begin ordering everything we need.

13. Walk-Through
Pre-construction: Day before demolition, the dumpster and porta potty are delivered, and we do a walk-through with our demolition contractor.

14. Construction Begins
Construction: Day of demolition includes protecting any surfaces as required and installing plastic zipper systems to mitigate the spread of dust. Then demolition begins! This the noisy, dirty part, but it doesn’t last long!

15. Construction

16. Final Walk-Through
Post-construction – includes a walk-through with our client to ensure there are no loose ends, and answer any questions related to installed materials.

17. Final Payment
Post-construction – a draft final invoice is sent to our client for approval; we receive final payment.

18. Warranty + Happy Client!
Warranty phase – we provide a one-year warranty on materials and workmanship; limited lifetime cabinet warranty.
The only thing left to do is for you to move into your new, beautiful space!
